Rehabilitation of the Former Convento das Grila

In Lisbon’s eastern quarter, a new co-living project is taking shape within the historic Convento das Grilas and former Officers’ Residence. Part of the dynamic Beato Innovation District ecosystem, this project introduces an innovative approach to urban living — more flexible, shared, and sustainable.

Rehabilitation of the Former Convento das Grila

Co-living Beato reinterprets a building of significant heritage value, adapting it to the needs of contemporary life. The intervention will preserve and enhance original features — such as façades, staircases, vaulted ceilings, and the iconic clock — while respecting the architectural identity and historical memory of the complex.

Designed by Promontorio studio, the project embraces a contemporary language that blends authenticity, comfort, and sustainability. The interiors are conceived to foster interaction and community living, through spacious and functional shared areas — such as communal kitchens, lounges, laundry rooms, and terraces.

The project also incorporates energy-efficient solutions, including the installation of photovoltaic panels and the use of materials compatible with the building’s original character. The connection to the local energy community further strengthens its commitment to urban and environmental regeneration in the city.

More than a housing solution, Co-living Beato offers a new urban lifestyle — tailored to creative, urban residents and digital nomads who value sharing, flexibility, and well-being.
